You all know that the 2B Mindset has changed my life.

It is absolutely the ONLY thing that has been consistent and easy to do. I have been doing it religiously since May 2018 and not only hit my first weight goal, but am now on my second goal.
I love it because it makes perfect sense, it’s slow – think 2lbs at a time and I promise you won’t get caught up in trying to find a way to make it go faster, because you will be completely satisfied – and for those reasons – I am IN for life! (Shark Tank fans will get that 😂)

When I think of Thanksgiving and the Holiday Season,

I think about all those holidays spent throughout the decades.

One stands out the most…

While living on the road, playing music in the 70’s through the 90’s, most of my holidays were spent with family – whether in Indiana, or Texas, or with the musicians who were my family somewhere out there in the USA or Canada.

The one that stands out is one that I spent all alone in 1981.

Now, before you start feeling like “awww not alone…on a holiday”… I have to tell you that it ended up being the most magical, peaceful day I had ever experienced.

I’ve always been a happy, positive person and independent. But the thought of spending Thanksgiving alone was weird at first.

So, I did the “I don’t know what to do!” thing. Since it was not cold out, I decided to go explore the town I was in… talk about the dead zone! No one was anywhere! The stores and restaurants were closed and even the doors to the church were locked!

Remember…this was before cell phones…


So I went back to the “band house”

and chose to just sit back and hang out with the owner’s puppy.

I loved this house to begin with…it was amazing. But there was a quiet patio with some comfy lawn chairs and beautiful forest-like woods surrounding the back of the property.

The dog who was my best buddy came with me to just lay back and listen to nature. Even the dog – who was still a puppy, just sat there with me.

We listened to the breeze, the pond water, and all of a sudden I felt the biggest wave of peace I had ever felt up to that point in my life. (I was about 27). This was the Universe wrapping it’s arms around me and slowing my life down for a day. I had never felt that before – that peace.

So, whenever I feel overwhelmed by my multi passion, multi business life, that’s where I go i n my subconscious.

I’ve always been completely comfortable on my own and that’s how it will always be. I am surrounded by loving, strong, heroic people, including my family and my friends who are also family.

I give them the best part of me every single day, because that’s how I feel every day. I strive to show them the Universe and what it can be like to have it surround you.That day was meant to be in my life…it was how I discovered that I was always going to be there to help other people. And most of you know the details of my life after that and through the early 90’s on. You also know that a new chapter opened up for me on Christmas Eve 2001.

Nothing remains the same. Go with the changes – find your peaceful space.

If you are not happy and comfortable with YOU, find a way to get there. It’s worth everything…especially for letting the right people into your life and heart.

I went from dreaming and WANTING to change my life to DECIDING to do just that.

I decided to do whatever it took to do what I wanted to do throughout my entire life. There’s never been a time in my life, no matter what else was going on, that I didn’t stop finding ways to do those things that held my passion. Even while being thrust into the role of care-taker for almost 10 years.

I had to get over my ultimate terror of spending money I “didn’t have” and know and believe that I could do it myself and do whatever it took, no matter what the cost. And I had to make TIME to get what I wanted, even if I was working 80 hours a week.

Because here’s the thing:

Not only did I face my fear of never having enough money or finding time, but I invested in myself. I believed in myself enough to take the leap and then demanded of myself that I would do whatever it takes. I did this subconsciously, just making it happen, nothing was so far out of reach that I couldn’t grab it. I had zero excuses.

Here’s what happened to the people who have done that very thing with my help –

• lost the weight they’ve always wanted to lose

• left  bad relationship when they were terrified to leave and move away from toxic environments

• found the relationship they’d been dreaming about

• quit that soul-sucking. mind-numbing  job that gets you nowhere except the same place you are now

Network Marketing is OUR future.

No one starts out getting rich in Network Marketing.  But the potential to gain more wealth than you dreamed possible is there 110%.

Network Marketing is the future.  Big box stores are the past.  You see our one-time favorite stores closing every day, or pulling out all the stops to risk change and stay open.

People prefer to shop online instead of the malls.  It’s faster, easier, no driving, just navigating the internet.  No crowds, no unsure and unsafe feeling.

How much more money do you spend in online shopping than actual brick and mortar store shopping…if you’re like me…you spend quite a bit more.  I can walk out of a mall with no bags.  Online I don’t think about that.  I just get what I want, especially if it’s free or discounted shipping.  More choices, more sales.  Free returns.   Shop in your pajamas.  Add-ons and specials that you don’t find in the 3-dimensional stores.  Are you one of those (like me) who gets interested in something at night…and gets hooked ordering make-up or workout clothing and shoes?  I am telling you, that it is a pattern that I am really focusing on controlling.

Online shopping and eCommerce is a multi billion dollar industry and is expected to grow by 8 to 12% in the next few years; suggesting that sales in the United States alone will fall between $427 billion and $443 billion.

People are not just spending more time online shopping, but they’re spending more money each time they do shop online. Business Insider intelligence forecasts that consumers in the United States will spend up to $632 billion online in 2020.  I truly believe that and I may just be a big contributor… LOL Really, I know it’s pretty addictive sitting at that computer, or on your phone while waiting for an appointment.

So, why has there been such a major increase in online retail and eCommerce activity?


Shopping online has increasingly become more convenient, mobile, and practical.

The new breed of simple-to-use eCommerce platforms, like Selz has made it easier than ever before for entrepreneurs, artists and creators, or small business owners to take advantage of this explosion in selling online from a blog, website or online store.  AND It’s easier than ever to become an entrepreneur!

According to a ComScore report, that 61% consumers are “at least somewhat likely” to cancel their entire purchase if free shipping isn’t involved.  I know I have done that very thing in some instances.

Where does that leave us?

Working as a Network Marketer with my online health and fitness business during the day and evenings is FUN and challenging at times.  It is a job I am in love with.  I set my own hours, I build my own team. I am the boss of me!  Becoming an entrepreneur is something anyone from any walk of life can do, and do easily on your own time.

Nothing is more rewarding than making an income and fulfilling your dreams instead of working for someone else’s dream.  What if you started now and could actually be a stay at home working mom by this time next year?

What if you could help your husband retire early, or help support your family members who are aging?  What if you were just FINALLY able to reach your potential and KEEP growing instead of feeling stuck…instead of going to the same job where someone else controls your hours, your paycheck and your life?

Imagine being more healthy and fit than you have ever been in your life because you made that decision to start.

Imagine having time to do those little things like grocery shopping, picking up the kids, planning meals, getting a workout in, having time to BREATHE without feeling like you’re giving up something else. And without feeling like you are rushing from place to place and letting something go because you need to get those groceries and you don’t have time to do both a workout AND get groceries.

STOP the madness

You can see that Network Marketing IS the future.  It is the future for all of us.  Nothing will stop that change from happening…but what YOU can do to get on top of all of it…is to go with the flow.  Find your passion, make it your business, then make it your paycheck!  It isn’t a quick fix, but it IS a LONG TERM fix and a legacy for your family!

It’s happening again!

No matter what I do, that stomach bloat won’t budge!  It might be age related, it might be inflammatory foods related.   I try super hard to know what foods are inflammatory and avoid them.  But it’s winter…and even though I have been doing pretty well, it’s still there UGH!  No matter what the season is, sometimes it just hangs on!  I do not hibernate in case you were wondering.

Here’s what I’ve done that works

Mike and I do a 3 day detox a few times a year.  IT IS TIME!  This is not a fast and it’s not a juice thing.  I practice Intermittent Fasting several days a week and LOVE it.  But this is something completely different.  I normally lose 4-7lbs in 3 days and Mike loses 6-10lbs in those 3 days (Men always lose more because they have 30% more muscle on average than women).  The best part is how it makes us feel for weeks after.  It makes me WANT to look in the full-length mirror again.  It makes me feel like my stomach is not a balloon or worse.  I feel sexier and healthier and lighter!!

The first time we did the refresh, I was at a place in my health/wellness journey where I was only looking for pounds lost and visible results. That’s where most of us begin our journey if we’re being honest.

While all of that is just fine, my focus the last time around was the inner transformation both physical and psychological. After all, it is a cleanse that is intended for the inside.  I entered the cleanse this time with the expectation  to regain a handle, a grip on my habits and give my body and digestive system a much needed jump start back into my typical healthy lifestyle.

Before this round with the Refresh begins, I have to say that my nutrition has been pretty good about 60% of the time or more and we’re on the second week of the Body Beast program – one of our go-to workout programs.  And you know, you cannot OUT exercise bad nutrition.  Even though I have not been eating crap or processed foods, I have been taking in more carbs than I normally like.  It’s easy to watch what you’re eating…but it’s also easy to tell yourself, “This is OK for now, I don’t do it all the time.”  Excuses…

Do you live in that self-defeating cycle…

You know, the one where you’re doing really well for 2 weeks or a month, then you fall off and stay off long enough to lose all of your results?  It can be frustrating and agonizing. Then after some unknown amount of time and just eating a few chips here and there, pizza on the weekends, and you can’t button your jeans – that is, if you can even pull them up over your 2 inch wider AGAIN hips.  THEN you just snap!

Is it now that you begin the deluge of self-abuse talk? “This is disgusting, why  have I let this happen again?”  “I am so stupid!”  “What the (bleep) is wrong with me?!” “Get up and start moving chunky – throw everything out of the kitchen!”   Then you feel like you have to start back at the very beginning. At the bottom. By yourself. Miserable. Disappointed. Desperate. Ashamed. because you just don’t want to talk to anyone about it and you feel like you are the ONLY one that keeps doing this to yourself.

Do you still have to make an effort NOT to say to those thing to yourself in times like this?   AND, just for the record, this type of behavior doesn’t play favorites. It takes down women of all shapes, weights, sizes, colors, men too! You are NOT alone.

THIS is the reality…

Those behaviors really don’t accomplish ONE SINGLE THING. Well, maybe they accomplish one thing – they push you farther away from your desired outcome.   Promise me that you will try your best to never ever allow yourself to say those things to yourself again. You and I both know you’re doing the best you can.  You are beautiful.  You are worthy of anything you desire, and you can obtain it.  I literally share all of this because a big part of my mission is to absolutely stop this cycle and help you learn how to retrain your mindset just like you train your muscles.  It’s your brain muscle.  That one between your ears!

The other thing I urge you to consider, is that those behaviors are also a choice and the choice must be made BEFORE you end up at the beginning again.  Don’t live a reactionary lifestyle where you just wait to find yourself in this predicament before you CHOOSE to make a change. Start TODAY!!! Right now.  Stand up, do some squats or jumping jacks, go grab a leash and take that little furball you’re snuggling for a walk.  Just move!  It IS possible. You just have to START and you have to STOP starting over!  Yes you can.

What is it??

It’s simple, non dairy, vegan based for 3 days…THREE DAYS.  There are a few shakes, some veggies, fruits and good for you fats, and lots of water involved. You are always eating or drinking something.  But all things considered, it’s also a mind challenge as well as it is a body challenge. YOU CAN DO IT!  And on the 4th day you’ll feel better than you’ve felt in a VERY long time.

Now, if all of that wasn’t enough to convince you, like I said, I always lose between 4-7lbs in those 3 days.   Just in case you were wondering, I have before and after pictures too, but I choose to save those only for people who are serious about taking the initiative in their health right now!  If you’re interested in seeing them just request it.

The first time I decided to make this change and do something a little different, maybe slightly uncomfortable to help myself get out of a rut, I went all in.  It was definitely the saving grace for me and for Mike.  I highly encourage you to consider giving it a try.  It’s THREE DAYS and you can do it anytime.  Monthly, quarterly, whenever you feel like it.  It has become one of the easiest things we ever do to de-bloat, reset our system and feel incredible.  There are a few different ways to get this kit.  I recommend the full kit.

 Beyond BMI

Why doctors won’t stop using an outdated measure for obesity.

I had a great discussion with a lovely woman in my weight loss/strength building support group today.  She is not completely happy with her weight yet and wants to lose a few inches as most of us do.  She had an appointment for a check up with her doctor, who she has not seen since 2011.   She told her physician that she was not quite where she wanted to be as far as her weight/measurements.  Emily told me that her doctor had a weird reaction saying that her BMI is where she wants it to be for Emily.  This made me cringe already!  But I was so excited to hear Emily was NOT going to take that as the word of wisdom or knowledge.  She asked if I had any references where she could do more research?  She already has a basic knowledge of BMI but want to learn more.   Of course, I just so happen to have a lot of info on this subject since it comes up a lot.  And asked Emily to share this with her doctor.  This is a fantastic article with some history of BMI and what it really was used for.

Why are doctors still measuring obesity with the body mass index?

A few extra pounds can extend your life. Or so chirped the press, reporting on a recent study from the journal Obesity. The new research, which supports earlier findings that being slightly overweight is associated with living longer, has added to an ongoing controversy over how we measure obesity. At the center of this debate is the body mass index, a simple equation (your weight in kilograms divided by the square of your height in meters) that has in the last decade claimed a near-monopoly on obesity statistics. Some researchers now argue that this flawed and overly reductive measure is skewing the results of research in public health.

For years, critics of the body mass index have griped that it fails to distinguish between lean and fatty mass. (Muscular people are often misclassifed as overweight or obese.) The measure is mum, too, about the distribution of body fat, which makes a big difference when it comes to health risks. And the BMI cutoffs for “underweight,” “normal,” “overweight,” and “obese” have an undeserved air of mathematical authority. So how did we end up with such a lousy statistic?

Belgian polymath Adolphe Quetelet devised the equation in 1832 in his quest to define the “normal man” in terms of everything from his average arm strength to the age at which he marries. This project had nothing to do with obesity-related diseases, nor even with obesity itself. Rather, Quetelet used the equation to describe the standard proportions of the human build—the ratio of weight to height in the average adult. Using data collected from several hundred countrymen, he found that weight varied not in direct proportion to height (such that, say, people 10 percent taller than average were 10 percent heavier, too) but in proportion to the square of height. (People 10 percent taller than average tended to be about 21 percent heavier.)

The new equation had little impact among the medical community until long after Quetelet’s death. While doctors had suspected the ill effects of obesity since at least as far back as the 18th century, their evidence was anecdotal. The first large-scale studies of obesity and health were conducted in the early 20th century, when insurance companies began using comparisons of height and weight among their policyholders to show that “overweight” people died earlier than those of “ideal” weight. Subsequent actuarial and medical studies found that obese people were also were more likely to get diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease.

By the early 1900s, it was well-established that these ailments were the result of having too much adipose tissue—so the studies used functions of height and weight as little more than a proxy for determining how much excess body fat people had. It would have been more accurate for the actuaries to compare longevity data with more direct assessments of body fat—such as caliper-measured skinfold thickness or hydrostatic weighing. But these data were much harder for them to obtain than standard information on height, weight, and sex.

The insurance tables gave us correlations between these physical characteristics and expected lifespan. But medical researchers needed a standard measure of fatness, so they could look at the health outcomes of varying degrees of obesity across an entire population. For decades doctors couldn’t agree on the best formula for combining height and weight into a single number—some used weight divided by height; others used weight divided by height cubed. Then, in 1972, physiology professor and obesity researcher Ancel Keys published his “Indices of Relative Weight and Obesity,” a landmark study of more than 7,400 men in five countries. Keys examined which of the height-weight formulas matched up best with each subject’s body-fat percentage, as measured more directly. It turned out that the best predictor came from Quetelet: weight divided by height squared. Keys renamed this number the body mass index.

The new measure caught on among researchers who had previously relied on slower and more expensive measures of body fat or on the broad categories (underweight, ideal weight, and overweight) identified by the insurance companies. The cheap and easy BMI test allowed them to plan and execute ambitious new studies involving hundreds of thousands of participants and to go back through troves of historical height and weight data and estimate levels of obesity in previous decades. Quite unfortunately.

Gradually, though, the popularity of BMI spread from epidemiologists who used it for studies of population health to doctors who wanted a quick way to measure body fat in individual patients. By 1985, the NIH started defining obesity according to body mass index, on the theory that official cutoffs could be used by doctors to warn patients who were at especially high risk for obesity-related illness. At first, the thresholds were established at the 85th percentile of BMI for each sex: 27.8 for men and 27.3 for women. (Those numbers now represent something more like the 50th percentile for Americans.) Then, in 1998, the NIH changed the rules: They consolidated the threshold for men and women, even though the relationship between BMI and body fat is different for each sex, and added another category, “overweight.” The new cutoffs—25 for overweight, 30 for obesity—were nice, round numbers that could be easily remembered by doctors and patients.

Keys had never intended for the BMI to be used in this way.

His original paper warned against using the body mass index for individual diagnoses, since the equation ignores variables like a patient’s gender or age, which affect how BMI relates to health. It’s one thing to estimate the average percent body fat for large groups with diverse builds, Keys argued, but quite another to slap a number and label on someone without regard for these factors.

Now Keys’ misgivings are gaining traction across the world of medicine: BMI simply doesn’t work when it comes to individual measurements. Whether that’s a problem worth worrying about is another question. Some researchers say BMI’s inaccuracies in individual measurements result in little actual harm, since an attentive doctor can spot outliers and adjust her diagnosis accordingly.

But this begs the question: If a doctor’s eye is better than BMI at determining a patient’s healthy weight, then why use BMI for individuals at all?

No matter how attentive they might be, health professionals have increasingly used body mass index to justify lifestyle recommendations for their patients. And online BMI calculators—there’s even one hosted by the NIH—invite people to diagnose themselves without any medical supervision whatsoever.

Faulty readings could promote a negative self-image among healthy people and lead them to pursue unnecessary diets. Or the opposite problem: People with a little too much body fat might be lulled into a false sense of complacency by a misleading BMI.

A recent critique of the body mass index in the journal Circulation suggests that BMI’s imprecision and publicity-friendly cutoffs may distort even the large epidemiological studies. (There’s no definitive count of how many people are mis-classified by BMI, but several studies have suggested that the error rate is significant for people of certain ages and ethnicities.) It’s impossible to know which studies have been affected and in what direction they might have been skewed.

Our continuing reliance on BMI is especially grating given there’s a very reasonable alternative. It turns out that the circumference around a person’s waist provides a much more accurate reading of his or her abdominal fat and risk for disease than BMI. And wrapping a tape measure around your gut is no more expensive than hopping on a scale and standing in front of a ruler. That’s why the American Society for Nutrition, the American Diabetes Association, and other prominent medical groups have lately promoted waist circumference measurements as a supplement to, or replacement for, the body mass index.

Yet few doctors have made the switch.

The waist measurements require slightly more time and training than it takes to record a BMI reading, and they don’t come with any official cutoffs that can be used to make easy assessments. The sensitivity of doctors to these slight inconveniences signals just how difficult it will be to unseat Quetelet’s equation. The body mass index is cheap and easy, and it has the incumbent advantage. In short, BMI is here to stay—despite, but also because of, its flaws.

How long has it been?  How long have you waited for something you really wanted?  Something you had to make happen because you really wanted or needed to do it.

A couple of months?  A year…5 years….your entire life?

Oh, I’m sure you had a really good reason or two…those self-assurances that you’ll promise to make it happen when you have more money, more time, you are less busy, you know, when the time is right.

Has the time EVER been right?

Here is the answer to that…YES the time is always right.  There is never a better time than right now.  When will you ever be LESS busy, have MORE time, MORE money…. MORE confidence?  All those reasons seemed like your perfect way out every single time.  An excuse that made sense at the time,  but where has that time gone?  And you’re still using those same, lame excuses because they are like muscle memory.  Try to understand that you never actually needed a way out of something you want to do.  You need a way IN.

I bet you just did it again.

Then you ask yourself, “why do I always do this, why am I still putting it off?” “What keeps stopping me?”   I don’t know why – everyone has different reasons that the roadblocks are there. We have to dig deep to figure it out and knock them down.

Because you REALLY want changes, but the longer you wait for something, the more daunting and overwhelming it seems.  So, it’s just easier to NOT start, to NOT change a habit.

Then what happens?

You have all those brilliant thoughts and ideas swimming lovingly and longingly in your head, but you just leave them there a little longer because you have to go to the grocery store, or pick up the kids, or go to your unappealing, unsatisfying desk job.  Then you wonder why your husband and family get on your last nerve at night, when all they want is your attention.  So it seems like they are sucking the last drop of life from you.

Guess what…

I’ll bet they never knew that you had other plans for yourself.  They still don’t know that you wish you had gone to Spain, taken that workout class, or that art class, had tried out to be the lead singer in the band that advertised for a new one, or had finished law school, or become a veterinarian.

WHY?? Simply because you never told them.  You never shared with them at least ONE THING that would make your heart race.  Maybe you just thought they would think you’re silly or a dreamer…guess what?

If people weren’t dreamers, we wouldn’t have technology, or movies, or music or exciting restaurants, and a million other things they dreamed of and accomplished because they just went for it no matter what, no matter who balked at the dream. They did whatever it takes to make it part of their real life.

The worst part is that if they had NOT discovered their hidden passions or said it out loud, then they may never have achieved them.  Can you imagine going to your grave and NOT achieving everything you set out to do in this life?

Suppose that you wanted to start eating healthier because you are sick and tired of being sick and tired.  But the reason you haven’t done it yet was because you would have to prepare two meals.  One for you and one for the family….WHY would you do that?  Don’t you want THEM to eat better too and not get sick and have a longer life?

I really don’t want to hear you say, “because they won’t eat food that’s good for them”.   If you like it, they will most likely eat what you eat. Then THAT will snowball into saving money at the grocery store and no more fast food on the run because you are now planning meals and snacks and everyone is more organized in your house – at least where food is concerned.  And everyone is feeling great! The kids don’t have fast food crap and stomach issues that go along with bad nutrition, and you don’t drive yourself crazy.  YOU, my dear, are NOW in control of at least THIS aspect of your life.

So, that leads to your next conquest…something you and you alone always wanted to try.  Maybe that’s playing an instrument, swimming lessons, taking some classes, learning how to help other people, or just maybe…it was becoming something so exciting that you want to burst every time you even think of it.  Only YOU know that because you never told anyone.

How in the world do you even begin to make this happen?

Choose one thing you really want.  Start speaking up!  Tell your family that you are going to accomplish this with or without their help and support (although that would be ideal).

Start researching HOW to do what you want to do.  Empower yourself with real knowledge.  Don’t hesitate to speak to people who already do what you wish you did.  Because one of these days, YOU will be the one who is sought after for YOUR knowledge.  And if you wait, if you procrastinate yet again, you are going to let time pass and it will be the worst and saddest thing you ever felt.

Excuses or Priorities?

How you choose to spend your time defines your priorities.  

Whether you say so or not, your priorities are where you choose to spend your time.

Do you live every day in that small, safe place?  Always settling for less life than you are so capable of creating and living?  What about the experiences you only keep wishing you could have? But excuse after excuse in your own thought patterns keep holding you back from jumping through that paper wall that seems to be blocking your way…when you can see on the other side what could be your best life. Yes, I said paper.

Are you ready to be done with those roadblocks? If not, may you’re OK with the price you’re paying every year, for continuing to put off making any change or taking even just one chance to pursue the passion that makes your heart race.

You only get one life

Learn how you can be bigger than any of your excuses. What you want most, what you envision really can happen.

 You know the old saying…

If you want to do something badly enough, you’ll find a way. If you don’t, you’ll find an excuse. It really IS as simple as that.

Stop Making Excuses for Who You Are

We all realize that excuses are really just masterfully designed justifications we tell ourselves, and anyone else who will listen, to rationalize our actions or, more likely, our IN-action. Let’s face it, there will always be an abundance of readily available reasons to justify the way you choose to live life and why you’re unable to improve it.

You are busy. You haven’t done it before. You are not as young as you once were, you don’t have the support you wish you had. It is difficult.  What if you fall?  What if you fail?  Maybe you’ll hurt your pride for a minute.  Oh well…

The Inconvenient Truth of Excuses

You know what? The inconvenient truth of any excuse is that the quality of your life is molded by the quality of your excuses.  If you’re like everyone else, most of the excuses you’ve been making are simply ways to cover up for the fact that you really don’t want to do something or you’re really just afraid that if you try, it won’t work out and you’ll feel like a loser. Am I right? We are going to turn that around!  I PROMISE!  Those excuses can be the little lies and reasoning we make to ourselves to avoid the actual work of creating and living a better life. You and I know both know that you are selling yourself short when you make excuses.

We’ve all said it before.

“I just don’t have enough time.”  when life gets busy or when we don’t want to feel guilty about not doing something or going somewhere.

  • If we don’t have enough time to work out, it’s easier for us to be okay with wheezing after a flight of stairs.
  • If we don’t have enough time to prepare healthy meals, it’s easier to accept our next unhealthy meal through a drive-thru window. Then pay for medication later.
  • If we don’t have enough time to clean the house, it’s easier to accept living in clutter and filth.
  • If we don’t have time to apply for new jobs and make new connections, it’s easier to accept staying in a dead-end job or procrastinating getting one and live smaller.

 What if you started today saying this…

Starting today, instead of saying: “I don’t have time.”  Catch yourself and say, “It’s not a priority.”   Learning this simple tactic has been HUGE in changing the way I think about my time.

Watch how your perspective shifts when looking at those same challenges this way:

  • “I’d love to work out, I just don’t have time” becomes “exercising isn’t a priority.”
  • “I’d love to eat healthier, but I don’t have time to cook” becomes “eating healthy isn’t a priority.”
  • “I don’t have time to apply for a job becomes “Helping to support myself and my family and living better isn’t a priority.

Suddenly, the excuse of time becomes an incredibly weak statement that even you don’t believe.

The real truth

As J.D. Roth, founder of Get Rich Slowly, stated during his talk at the World Domination Summit

“It’s not what we say is a priority, but what we actually DO that’s a priority.”

J.D. shared how he used to tell his friend, “oh I LOVE reading, I just don’t have time for it.” In reality, JD was just putting everything else in front of reading: watching TV, staying up late surfing the internet, and so on.  Once he realized how he was prioritizing his life, he started analyzing where his precious time was going.

Time is our most precious resource.  We all have 168 hours in a week.

It’s remarkable how much time you can find when you minimize the things that aren’t important to make room for the things that are.

Where do you spend your time?  Just like any tracking system, keeping a daily food journal can be eye-opening.  Try tracking your time over the next seven days in 30-minute blocks. How much time do you spend on the computer, watching TV, Social Media, etc.?   You will probably be surprised!  Of course, if you work from home, your computer time will be more priority time.

WOW Look at what you accomplished!!

  • The 10 hours of TV each week become less important.
  • The late nights on Facebook become more evident .
  • Those unproductive hours spent sitting at your desk, “working” without actually WORKING become crystal clear.

It’s not what you say that’s important to you, it’s what you DO that’s important to you.  

I know you can get a great workout in 20-30 minutes, so I refuse to accept ANYBODY telling me that they don’t have time to work out.

Listen to the excuses of truly successful people and one thing will stand out: They don’t make them. Instead, they OWN their choices and take full responsibility of the results that happen what they did or didn’t do.

The excuses I’ve used have all found their way back to me as JUST THAT, meaningless excuses!  One excuse I have NEVER used and will never use, is that I am too old, or that my family never supports me.  I know that anyone can make anything happen at any age.  I also know that, even though I grew up with a mom and sister that stood behind me 110%, I understand there are people who don’t get that support and encouragement from spouses or other family members.   Close your ears to them and make YOUR life happen.  Then watch them follow.  This is about YOU – making your life something spectacular and you should be able to include your loved ones.

Maybe you have NO idea how to start

When I started playing music full-time, living on the road, I had no idea where to start.  I figured it out.  This was way before the internet. I made it happen without computers, without social media and without cell phones.  After all those years on the road (16+ years to be exact), when I decided in my early 40’s to get back into fitness, I wasn’t sure where to begin since it had been so long.  I figured that out because I had no excuses and not reason not to do it.  I always made things happen that were my passions.  I can’t live any other way. Even in those times of doing what I HAD to do, I still did what I longed and needed to do.

I gave myself permission. After a few years, I owned and operated a Martial Arts/Fitness Center. I put my band back together with new members. There are so many things I decided I could do, because excuses would never let me see the joy and light of living the way I want to live.

 A Problem You Probably Already Thought About

Most people would have accepted any excuse I might have made for not pursuing the life of a traveling singer/musician, living in hotels traveling from city to city, state to state, country to country.  Those same people would have also accepted any excuse I made for not opening up the Martial Arts/fitness school.  Yes, I had to relearn and study and get certified and all that goes along with it. But doing the work makes the reward sweeter, always.

And oh yes, you will always find those well-meaning people to back up your excuses. Even the ridiculous ones. But those people will never be the trailblazers, the change makers and go-getters and entrepreneurs. Nope, the people who will back up your excuses are the ones who have well-worn excuses themselves to explain their lot in life. They don’t want to imagine you being successful because they have no idea what that means, and it might mean leaving them behind.

  1. What is not working in my life right now or just isn’t as great as I’d like it to be?
  2. What excuses have I been making to justify and explain it?
  3. What’s the price I will pay if I keep trading in these excuses? (Lost opportunity cost, financial cost, relationship cost, physical cost, career cost, etc.)
  4. What is one powerful choice I can make right now that will move me powerfully into action? (e.g., I will set my alarm for 5 a.m. tomorrow and every day thereafter!)

Think about this…you only get one life, and delaying, procrastinating makes an increasing toll the longer you live that way.  Don’t waste time and the best years of your life on excuses that keep you from your amazing REAL life. Be bigger than your best excuses. What you really want most in every part of your life, is depending on it… if you don’t, the time will still pass, then it’s gone and you have no more time.
